Why can’t I embed YouTube Videos on my blog?
-
I’m a new user of the WordPress blog. I’ve had other blogs, but never using WordPress. Why can’t I embed You Tube videos on my blog? Do you have to pay extra for that?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, you can embed youtube videos. No it does not cost anything to do that.
Here’s the wordpress.com support documentation link for bookmarking for future use http://en.support.wordpress.com/
Typing “youtube” into the searchbox produced these results
http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=youtube It looks like the top entry is the instructions posting a youtube video in a post or on a page.
Happy blogging :) -
Wow, I did not know that. I thought a blogger had to purchase the video upgrade to embed a video or if they did not wish to purchase the upgrade, they could use something like vodpod. Learn something new every day by visiting here.

@timethief – I just did a test. IT WORKS!!! I’m pouring you a cup of my best coffee!!!!
So my question is what is the purpose of a video upgrade? I had purchased the audio upgrade as I wanted to post midi files. Perhaps that was not necessary like the video upgrade. For videos, I’ve been posting them to vodpod and then sending them to my blog.

I read that before. It has to do with embedding as I understand it. Whether one embeds or uses the url as I did on my test blog, does it not accomplish the same thing — the video being posted? Maybe I don’t understand the difference. You can shake your head in unbelief at my dumbness but I don’t understand. I was considering purchasing the video upgrade but now I don’t know if it’s necessary. I don’t understand the difference or benefit in doing so since it turns out I can post videos.

I’m into minimalization and using my 3000 megabytes (~3 GBs) of space for storing uploaded files and images space frugally. Therefore when I upload an new header I delete the old one from “media library” so my space is freed up. After a year I check the videos I have posted. If they are still “live” and can pull from the source then I remove the embed and replace it with a link. That also frees up my space. If I have posts that received no hits in the past year and they have images then I delete them from the posts and from the “media library”.
Here is the a reference link:

Well, you got me thinking and wondering. I use WLW so I thought I would do a plugin search for videos. Turns out there’s one made specially for WordPress.COM. I tested it and it works beautifully. I then checked my media and it’s not taking up space there as I don’t see the video saved in my media.
Here’s the link to my testblog with the video. http://tishreitest.wordpress.com/

Re: media libaray deletionsNotes:
* The amount of free space in your blog may not change for a few minutes, so please be patient.
* The amount of space freed may not drop until 500kb of images has been deleted. (1% of the 50mb is 500kb)
* Images that have been cached by search engines cannot be affected by us. Contacting Support about this cannot get the image removed.

I’m confused. <—said sarcastically. When I copy and paste the true embed code from a YouTube video, WordPress.com replaces it with the URL link, disallowing me to customize the display size of the embedded video on my page. This is almost a show-stopper because I shoot HD 16:9 video. Yet, when I “embed” them on my WordPress.com blog, it forces a 4:3 ratio video window.
Why is WordPress.com not allowing the use of the “true” embed code?

You don’t need to be confused; you need to read the instructions for changing the display ratio:
-
“all you have to do is… “
I’ve heard good stuff about WordPress.com over the last couple years but this “all you have to do is…” ethos is too much. Trying to post a silly video from viddler.com has become a frustrating undertaking. I can’t believe a video can’t be embedded without joining yet ANOTHER partner sight. This is ridiculous and frustrating.
-
sorry, I just needed to vent as I decide how much more time I’m willing to invest into a viable workaround for “copy embed code” “paste embed code”.
-
Okay let’s try this again people.
I have the same issue.
YES I do know how to embed videos onto my Blog on WordPress, but when I paste the code and publish my post, the video disappears and when I go to edit my post I see that the code is non-existant as if I never pasted it! (scratches head…)
This is extremely frustrating especially when I’ve been doing it fine for several months now!HELP PLEASE!

The help cannot begin until you post the complete and clickable URL for the blog in question, starting with http://
P.S. SHOUTING! is not effective and can actually deter volunteers from trying to help you at all.

If you do in fact have a WordPress.com blog, the answer you seek was posted in the links TT posted right up near the top of the page.
